Order Prints of "Witch's Fortress"
“From where the Witch's Fortress
O'er hangs the dark-blue seas;
From the still glassy lake that sleeps
Beneath Aricia's trees--
Those trees in whose dim shadow
The ghastly priest doth reign,
The priest who slew the slayer,
And shall himself be slain;”
The Battle of Lake Regillus
by Thomas Babbington Macaulay
The place to which the story speaks is that of Lake Nemi which became known as Diana’s Mirror. This place was founded by king Agamemnon’s daughter who was supposed to be sacrificed for good wind so they could begin the famous trojan war. Artemis saved his daughter from the knife and took her to this sacred forest beginning the cult of Diana. Iphigenia was his daughters name
